Mission Statement

Science and engineering are pivotal in the transformation of modern life.

If our technological enterprises are to enhance human well-being, then both the problems and the potentials of these ventures must be better understood by nontechnical professionals and ordinary citizens, as well as by scientists and engineers.

The Institute for Science, Engineering and Public Policy is a public, non-profit corporation dedicated to the development of local understanding of issues concerning science, technology and society (STS).

The Institute works to improve popular appreciation of the role of public policy in actualizing the benefits of technological advances to humanity.

The Institute promotes debate on technology-related policies and works to plan and implement those policies that take full advantage of technological opportunities for the benefit of humanity.

OBJECTIVES:
1
. To establish an informed public dialogue on the technological future of the nation.

2. To establish a policy network to better plan and implement a desired technological future for the nation.

3. To improve the public understanding of science and technological enterprise: the needs, the potentials and the problems.

PROGRAMS
Public Education Program: Public Speakers Series; contributions to print and electronic media; workshops/seminars; primary and secondary curriculum materials.

STS Policy Network: Serve as the local link to the national and international network of STS consultants and "think tanks', whereby global expertise can be focused on the nation.

Promote Technology Transfer: Foster university-industry relations, and nurture entrepreneurship.
